Globe Valve Vs. Gate Valve
-
Linear Valves
-
The gate valve and GLOBE VALVE are types of linear isolation valves. Isolation valves are used to divert fluids. Linear isolation valves move in one direction to open and close. Linear valves include globe valves, gate valves, diaphragm valves and pinch valves. The other type of valve is a rotary movement valve.
The Gate Valve
-
Gate valves operate between an open and closed position. The valve slides up and down in the pipe to open and close. These valves are most used in domestic water systems. Gate valves create a minimal pressure drop while open. Gate valves are less durable, because the opening and closing easily causes wear and tear. They are often used as the first valve in a plumbing system.

The Globe Valve
-
Globe valves are considered the most common. They are used in residential plumbing, and are best used as branch lines. To open, the globe valve slides with the flow of the liquid. Globe valves are less expensive than gate valve, and are less likely to leak. It is difficult to close a globe valve because the pressure from the fluid keeps the valve open.
