What Does a Globe or Angle Valve Do
-
Purpose
-
The GLOBE VALVE is used to increase or reduce the flow of liquid through a pipeline. In plumbing, they are also called stop valves because they can also prevent liquid from flowing. Standard water faucets, for example, are equipped with globe valves that regulate water supply.
Function
-
The globe or angle valve consists of a metal, circular base with a plug and a handle that resembles a wheel or disc. The wheel shifts and initiates the valve plug to open or close. If the valve is opened, liquid can flow through freely, but, when the wheel triggers the plug to close the valve, flow is prevented.
-
Exceptions
-
Globe valves can be automatic or manually operated. For manual operation, the wheel of the valve is turned by hand.
