Unusual shaped ball
I'm looking for a source for a ball valve (class 150 flanged, metal body, pTFE seats) with an unusual shaped ball. Instead of being a constant diameter sphere, the ball has two recessed circular areas located 90 degreees to the ball bore.In the closed position - the exposed upstream and downstream surface of the ball has a slightly smaller spherical diameter than the rest of the ball. I think one purported benefit was reduced operating torque because of less contact area between the ball and seats while being rotated.I saw this design some years ago. Just can't recall the manufacturer. Any help would be appreciated, 30 Apr 10 20:18 I know two valve manufacturers which make a Ball valve similar to your description.Jarecki Valve's Phantom Port Ball valve (Floating design) and Newmans-Newco Valve's QuadroSphere Ball Valve (Trunnion design).
